Short links / Import links

Import links from another shortener

Move your short links from Bitly, Rebrandly, Dub, Short.io or any tool with a CSV export.

The import copies your existing short links into useClick: the destination, the title and, when it is free on useClick, the original back-half. Bitly, Rebrandly, Dub and Short.io connect with an API key; every other shortener (TinyURL, Cuttly, YOURLS, Shlink, Kutt and more) works with a CSV export.

Before you start

  • Importing is part of the Starter plan and above, like bulk upload. On Free the dialog offers an upgrade.
  • Imported links count toward your plan's link total. If you import more than your plan has room for, the first links up to the limit are imported and the dialog says so.
  • Every destination goes through the same safety check as a link you create by hand. Unsafe or invalid destinations are skipped and listed at the end.

Import with an API key (Bitly, Rebrandly, Dub, Short.io)

  1. In Short links, click Import and choose your current shortener.
  2. Create an API key there (the dialog says where) and paste it. useClick uses the key once, on its server, to read your links. It is not stored.
  3. Click Read links. Up to 5,000 links are read per import; for more, use a CSV export.
  4. Check the preview, leave Keep the original back-halves when they are free on, and click Import.

Import a CSV file from any shortener

  1. Export your links as CSV from your current tool.
  2. In Short links, click Import, choose CSV file and pick the file (up to 10 MB). Files separated by commas, semicolons or tabs all work.
  3. useClick finds the Destination URL, Short URL or back-half and Title columns from their headers. Change them if a guess is wrong.
  4. Click Import.

Back-halves and your old short URLs

  • Back-halves are unique across useClick. When yours is free (3 to 50 letters, numbers, - or _), the imported link keeps it; otherwise it gets a new random back-half and the result says so.
  • After the import, Download old → new URLs gives you a CSV with every old short URL next to its new useClick URL.
  • Your old short URLs keep working on the old service until you close that account. If they use your own domain, add that domain to useClick (Custom domains) after importing, so the same back-halves answer there.
  • Click history stays with the old service; useClick starts counting from the first click after the move.
