Short links / Link analytics

Link analytics

Read a short link's clicks by time, location, device and source, filter them, export them, and share a public stats page.

Every short link has its own analytics page. It shows how many clicks the link got, when, from where, on which devices and through which sources, and lets you narrow everything down with a click. This guide goes through the page from top to bottom.

  • In Short links, click a link in the list, or open its ··· menu and choose View analytics.
  • The page lives at /dashboard/ followed by the link's back-half, for example /dashboard/spring-sale.

The top card shows the short link with a Copy button, its status, and where it Redirects to. The status chip reads Active, Expired, Limit reached, or Broken / Timeout when useClick's health check cannot reach the destination.

The buttons next to it:

  • QR code: download a QR code for the link. See QR codes.
  • Share stats: turn on a public stats page (see below).
  • Reset stats: permanently delete all click data of this link after you confirm with Yes, reset everything. This cannot be undone.
  • Edit link: change the destination, domain, back-half, folder, campaign or geo-targeting.

Below, a settings grid lists everything that is set on the link: Domain, Campaign, Folder, UTM, Geo-targeting, A/B test, Password, Expires, Email capture, Content warning, Deep link, Stats page and Created. Only settings that are in use appear. Links with a click limit also show a Click limit bar.

If the link is part of an A/B test, an A/B test comparison card follows. See A/B testing.

Choose a date range

  • Use the tabs Today, 7d, 30d, 90d, 12m and All.
  • More opens the full list (Yesterday, Last 3, 6, 12 and 24 months, Last 3 years) and a calendar for a custom range.
  • Next to the filters you see what the numbers are compared with, for example Compared with the previous 30 days. The comparison is shown only when that previous period lies inside your plan's data retention.

How far back you can look depends on your plan's data retention:

PlanData keptLongest preset ranges
Free30 daysToday, Yesterday, 7 and 30 days
Starter12 monthsAdds 90d, 3, 6 and 12 months
Growth24 monthsAdds 24 months
Pro and Business3 yearsAdds 3 years

Ranges outside your plan show a lock and open the upgrade dialog. All covers everything your plan keeps. Older clicks are deleted automatically once they fall outside the retention window.

KPIs and the clicks chart

CardWhat it shows
ClicksEvery recorded click in the range, with a small trend line
Unique visitors (est.)An estimate of distinct visitors, based on a privacy-friendly anonymous hash. It is an approximation.
Clicks per visitorClicks divided by unique visitors
Bot trafficThe share of clicks that came from known bots and crawlers

Each card shows the change against the previous period when a comparison is available.

Clicks over time draws the clicks in the range, with the previous period as a dashed line and the peak marked. Switch between Hour, Day and Month where the range allows it, and use the time zone menu to show times in another zone. Automatic (Your Browser) is the default, and your choice is remembered in this browser.

Where the clicks come from

Locations

The Locations card has five tabs: Countries, Regions, Cities, Map (a world map shaded from fewer to more clicks) and 3D (an interactive globe, which you can enlarge with Expand globe). Locations are based on the visitor's network; useClick does not store IP addresses.

Technology

The Technology card splits clicks by Browsers, Devices, OS and Languages (the browser's preferred language).

Traffic sources

Traffic sources lists the sites and apps that sent the clicks, based on the referrer. Clicks without a referrer, such as typed links, QR code scans, many email and chat apps, and some social apps, are grouped as Direct.

Day, month and hour patterns

  • By day of week shows clicks per weekday and names the busiest day.
  • By month shows clicks per month.
  • When people click is a heatmap of weekday by hour, in the time zone you selected, with the peak hour called out. Use it to pick the best time to post.

Bot traffic

The Bot traffic card shows which bots and crawlers opened the link, in the tabs AI Answers, Indexing and Training, with All for every bot including link-preview fetchers. Bot clicks are included in the Clicks total and the other breakdowns; filter by a bot to see its clicks on their own. See Bot traffic.

Recent clicks

Recent clicks lists the latest clicks in the range with time, country, device, browser and referrer. View all opens up to the 200 most recent, with city and operating system.

Filter the analytics

  1. Click any row in Locations, Technology, Traffic sources or Bot traffic, or a country on the map or globe.
  2. A filter chip such as Country: Germany appears next to the date range, and the whole page updates to show only matching clicks.
  3. Add more filters the same way; they combine. The bar shows how much of the traffic is left, for example Showing 312 of 1,040 clicks (30.0%).
  4. Remove a filter with the × on its chip, or click Clear all.

The Locations card is not narrowed by filters on other dimensions: filtering by a browser, for example, still lists every country for the range. The other cards follow all active filters. View all on a card opens the complete list with a search box.

Export clicks as CSV

  1. Choose the date range and any filters.
  2. Click Export CSV.

The file contains up to the 50,000 most recent matching clicks, one row each, with timestamp, date, time, country, city, browser, OS, device and referrer. The IP address and user agent columns are always Unknown, because useClick does not store them. If the export reaches 50,000 rows, narrow the range or filters to export the rest. CSV export is available on paid plans; on Free the button shows a lock.

Share a public stats page

  1. Click Share stats.
  2. Switch on Public stats page.
  3. Copy the Share link (useclick.io/stats/ followed by the back-half) and send it to anyone.

Anyone with the address can see the link's analytics without an account. The destination URL and other sensitive details stay hidden. The same dialog gives you an embed code under Embed the 3D globe, an iframe that shows the link's traffic on a globe with a "Powered by UseClick.io" badge. Switch Public stats page off to make the stats private again. The Stats page entry in the settings grid shows whether the page is Public or Private. See Public dashboards.

Good to know

  • The Updating… label next to the link shows while the page refreshes its numbers.
  • If your account has used all of its monthly clicks, links keep redirecting but new clicks are not recorded, and the analytics are locked until the next month or until you upgrade.
  • Links with email capture also show a Captured emails card with the sign-up funnel and a CSV export of confirmed emails.
  • AI assistants can read the same numbers through the MCP server, and your code through the API.
